He was the tar player, composer and worker of art of music.

Folklore songs and mugams, performed by M.S.Amirov together with other musicians of Azerbaijan, were recorded by the company "Gramophone" in Riga in 1910.

Amirov obtained musical education in Istanbul in 1911-1912 and there he wrote the mugam "Heyrat" in notes and published it.

He was the author of the opera "Seyfelmulk" (1915) and musical drama "An honest girl" (1923). He is the father of Fikret Amirov.
