Islam Abdullayev
Islam Abdullayev was born in 1876 in Shusha and died on September 22 in 1964 in Baku. He was one of the greatest representatives of the Karabakh School of khanendes.
Islam Abdullayev was the famous and inimitable performer of “Segah” mugam. He was named “Segah Islam” by people for his great singing of “Segah” mugam and all its variants-“Zabul Segah”, “Mirza Huseyn Segahy”, “Orta Segah”, “Kharij Segah”.
Islam Abdullayev got his education in Shusha school. He learned mugams from musicologist, scientist Mir Mohsun Navvab, khanende (singer) Haji Husu and from many other well-known Karabakh khanendes, started to perform in accompaniment of tarzen (tar player) Mirza Sadyg Asad oglu (Sadygjan).
“Segah”, “Bayaty Gajar”, “Shahnaz”, “Shushtar” mugams in Islam Abdullayev’s performance was recorded by “Sport Record” and “Ekstrafon” companies in 1910-1915 years. He was the pedagogue.
