Great Azerbaijani poet Aliagha Vahid commemorated

Mugam RadioOn 18 February, a memorial plague of poet Aliagha Vahid was opened and an event to mark his 118th anniversary was held with the support of “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Office.

Spokesman of the reserve Rahib Azeri, employee Shahin Verdiyev, chairman of “Vahid” independent literary poets’ assembly Rafig Aliyev, chairman of “Mejmeush-shuara” literary assembly, PhD in history, ghazal writer and poet Shahin Fazil and others spoke about irreplaceable services of Aliagha Vahid to develop the Azerbaijani literature and especially the ghazal style at the event.

They noted that Aliagha Vahid began to study in a Muslim ecclesiastical school and due to bad financial circumstances, he had to leave the school in the middle and began to work as a joiner. While being young, he entered a literary society “Mejmeush-shuara” where he wrote his first lyrical poems. In his satirical poems of the earliest times of his creativity he criticized social deficiencies in the society, superstition and narrow-mindedness, tyranny and unfairness. These poems entered his first collection of poems called “The result of avidity”.

Vahid, successor of traditions of Fizuli, was famous the Azerbaijani literature as one of the great representatives of ghazal style.

The event noted that his ghazels were distinguished for their simplicity of poetic language, creativity and harmony.

Pupils of secondary school No293 performed the ghazals and poems of Vahid at the event. (AzerTAj)
